This maritime-inspired contemporary London dry is designed to transport you to a bracing coastal clifftop walk. It is based on grain-neutral spirit redistilled with 22 botanicals in a vintage pot still.

The juniper berries are sourced from northern Poland because they are less piney than the more commonly used Italian berries and add woody notes that suit this gin. Locally sourced and foraged botanicals are favoured, and although a secret recipe, named botanicals include sweet spice, sparaxis, local samphire, sea buckthorn, kelp, elderflower, orange blossom, and fresh orange zest.

The dry botanicals are macerated in grain-neutral spirit for 12 hours, and the fresh botanicals are placed in the vapour basket just prior to the start of the single-shot distillation.

White Cliffs Gin is bottled at the distillery in 100% recycled glass.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 16/09/2024

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Juniper, orange blossom and orange zest are most prominent in a tightly packed, complex and attractive nose.

Taste:

Juniper leads with maritime botanicals, perhaps particularly samphire, imparting seaside salinity. The orange that is so prominent on the nose is more subdued, with more classic gin botanicals providing structure. Delicate floral notes garnish light peppery spice.

Aftertaste:

Juniper and salty samphire continue in the finish, which retains delicate orange and floral notes.

Overall:

A properly 'craft' gin that conveys the proximity to the English coast from where it's made.
