Launched 1st September 2016 at London's Savoy Hotel, Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto is the brainchild of Giuseppe Gallo who was inspired by traditional Italian Rosolio liqueurs to launch the first new commercial example for decades.

Ingredients include Calabrian Bergamot oranges, Sicilian citrons, chamomile from Lazio, and herbs from Northern Italy: lavender, yellow roses, lemon balm, and gentian. It is likely to be based on beet neutral spirit and also sweetened with beet sugar.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 16/05/2024

Appearance:

Clear (but not bright), pale straw yellow golden.

Aroma:

Wonderfully aromatic with zesty citrus oils and underlying herbal complexity - particularly chamomile and gentian. Faint orange blossom, lavender and rose petal.

Taste:

Delicately spiced with zesty bergamot and lemon. Subtle rooty/bark bitterness balances light honeyed sweetness. Delicate floral notes.

Aftertaste:

Floral notes are more pronounced in the dry, zesty finish with lingering lemon and lavender.

Overall:

Superbly balanced and complex with bright zestiness, herbal bitterness and honeyed sweet notes harmoniously complementing each other, garnished with a floral bouquet.
