Bols Blue 1575 is named after the year Lucas Bols established his distillery and produced to celebrate the 450th anniversary.

Bols Blue 1575 is a premium addition to the Bols range and does not replace Bols Blue Curaçao, the company's best-selling liqueur. This new blue curaçao liqueur is based on a historical recipe and has a very different taste profile from other blue curaçao liqueurs. It is flavoured with botanicals, such as vanilla, grains of paradise, and cardamom, in addition to orange zest.

Interestingly, the original intended strength of 30% alc./vol. was dropped by half-a-percent due to UK bureaucracy requiring tax stamps at 30% and above.

The faceted diamond-shouldered hourglass bottle, made from 50% recycled glass, is designed to resemble djembe drums from West Africa, reflecting the use of rum in the blend. These drums influenced the rubber band around the bottle's pinch and also helps grip it when pouring.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 15/10/2024

Appearance:

Clear, cobalt blue. (Darker than Bols Blue Curaçao)

Aroma:

Vanilla and cardamom with delicate black pepper and a twist of orange zest.

Taste:

Vanilla and cardamom with cream of soda orange and peppery spice.

Aftertaste:

Long cardamon-led finish.

Overall:

This blue curaçao is as much about vanilla and cardamon with peppery spice from grains of paradise as it is orange. On the palate, vanilla gives the orange notes an attractive creaminess.
